If you sell on the web, you know nothing beats the holiday selling season. That being said, you need to tweak your site a bit to maximize sales during this epic period.

For many businesses, the vast majority of their online sales happen during the end of the year holiday season. Given this fact, it can be easy to get lazy as you sit back and watch the money roll in. If you take a few extra steps, however, you can really crank up the numbers and have a very happy holiday indeed.

First and foremost, you need to figure out your latest shipping day. Depending on the goods you are selling, this may be as soon as a week before December 25th or as late as December 23rd. Obviously, the goal is to find the latest possible shipping date so your customers can order up to the last moment. This is known as squeezing the last possible sales from the season.

Once you have the shipping date figured out, post it on your site. Do not just put it in the cart section. It should be posted on every page, preferably in the header of the site or some other prominent position. The biggest worry of most holiday shoppers is that they will not get a gift in time. By telling them exactly when they can order, you will overcome this fear.

The second area many sites miss is the alternative address. People travel like mad during the holidays. Families reunite all over the country and world. One thing your clients will appreciate is the ability to order and have the gifts shipped to an alternative address. This is particularly true if you are taking late orders. A customer does not want to order one of your products on December 20th if it can only be shipped to their home. Such a situation does not help them if they are going to be at a family gathering in another state!

It is easy to get lazy as the online holiday shopping season goes full tilt. If you follow the above advice and take the extra step, you can maximize your sales.
