Dear Reader,I am a big fan of win/win
joint ventures!
That is
when two (or more) companies join forces to offer
something new together, that would not have been
possible (or not as good) doing alone. 1 + 1 = 3
In
the world of music, it's called a Duet.
And just as dancing, it's always
better to be two!
Preferably
the investment should be non-existent or low, and
the gains be high.
A common
win/win joint venture could be in form of an
exclusive offer for a limited period of time
selling a complementing product or service to a
special price.
In
proposing this joint venture, one company could
tell the other; "We have the product, you
have the clients. Let's combine our forces and
everybody will benefit from it!".
The
essential point here is that EVERYBODY should win
-- both of the companies doing the joint venture
and most importantly the market/people they want
to reach.
Let me
give you a real example of a great joint
venture...
Right
now, as I am writing this, there is a summer
festival in a small town called Askersund, nearby
where I live. Yesterday I heard an interview with
the organizers on the radio.
They
ended the interview by saying that they have
arranged to have a huge mobile construction crane
there, where anyone can go far up in the sky to
get a great view of the beautiful landscape right
by the lake.
They
further explained that ALL of the money earned
will go to an organization helping children with
cancer.
What a
GREAT idea!
...a
fantastic join venture where everybody involved
truly wins! And even other, non-related people
wins!
First of
all, it helps children with a terrible disease.
They need all the help they can get!
(That is the Winner #1 -- Non-related)
The
people who buy a ticket to go up with the crane
feel great because they get an unforgettable
experience during this special event for a low
fee, at the same time they are helping children
who really are in need of help.
(That is the Winner #2 -- The market)
The
organizers don't make any money but the crane
will attract a great deal of additional people to
the festival and keep them there longer (it has
already become one of the main attractions). They
were smart to announce it on the radio.
(That is the Winner #3 -- Company A)
I am sure
that the company who owns the crane lent it out
without charging anything for it. They get an
enormous direct exposure to thousands of people
for free (since it is weekend, the crane would
have not been used anyway for any construction
work so they don't risk any income loss) and they
probably got a couple of new clients as well.
(That is the Winner #4 -- Company B)
So this
is a true win/win joint venture where a lot of
people gained much thanks to someone who was
smart and came up with a great idea. None of the
two companies had to invest much money or time,
they just used things that were already there in
a new way.
I did not
have a chance to go there myself today, but I
heard that they had a huge success! Many people
showed up on the festival and the lines to the
crane were packed with eager and happy people.
The kids must have loved it!
So...
what win/win joint ventures can YOU create and do
with other companies so that everybody involved
wins?
Think
about it. You can start one today!
Have a
wonderful day.
All the
best,
